More and more insurance companies are inspecting their insured properties to be sure that they are maintained. Some things that they are looking for are tree branches overhanging the roof and bushes and vines growing against the house.
Branches overhanging the roof drop leaves that can pile up and increase the deterioration of the roof. In addition, a buildup of leaves in the valleys of the roof allows water to back up and penetrate the roof creating water damage to the interior of the house. This situation is not covered on your policy as it is a maintenance issue and not a sudden and accidental occurrence.
Branches growing against your house or vines growing on your exterior walls accelerate the oxidation of the paint covering your house or the breakdown of the protective stucco and or wood. They also make it more difficult to repaint your house.
